For A Song Wines – Mattawa, Washington 2008
The Score - Merlot, Columbia Valley
For a Song wines are brought to you by people who are deeply committed to bringing you the best everyday wine from the heart of the Pacific NW. Their fruit is selected from sites throughout Washington and Oregon by folks who truly understand and appreciate the terroir of the region. This careful consideration resonates through every glass you'll enjoy of these delicious wines. Along with their passion for great wine, they are also people who love to slow down and listen to the music, and they hope these wine inspire you to do the same. The 2008 vintage is made from 80% Merlot, 10% Syrah, and 10% Cabernet Franc. They select the fruit for The Score from several sites on the Washington side of the Columbia Valley AVA. Silt and sand deposited sediments, along with wind-blown loess sediment, make up the area’s present-day soils, which are well drained and ideal for grapevines. Hot days in this Continental High Dessert Climate promote the slow, even ripening of complex rich flavors, while the cool nights ensure that grapes retain their natural acidity which adds structure and vitality to this wine. Carefully sorted and de-stemmed fruit, along with gentle pressing and ‘low and slow’ fermentation give this wine a velvety texture, with true varietal expression and power, while keeping the tannins fine and structure in balance. We feel that Merlot sings a very beautiful and unique song in Washington. The Score offers a lush, concentrated perfume of wild plum, blackberry and rhubarb. On the palate, the concentrated fruit flavors are married with secondary flavors of espresso, cocoa dust and leather. Merlot (power and performance), Syrah (fruit and spice) and Cabernet Franc (savory notes and structure) compose a symphony in the glass. An elegantly voluptuous wine with perfect balance. Drink now through 2015.
Windsor Sonoma – Healdsburg, California
2009 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley
Windsor Sonoma Winery is a line of ultra-premium wines, born out of Pat Roney's love of wine, vast experience in the wine business and clear vision to produce high-quality wines from grapes that celebrate the terroir in the best Sonoma appellations. Windsor Sonoma Winery is the perfect Sonoma complement to the celebrated Girard Winery in the Napa Valley, where Roney has already accomplished those lofty goals. Renowned winemaker, Marco DiGiulio heads the winemaking team that is shared by Windsor Sonoma Winery and Girard Winery. Marco shares Roney's vision of making high-quality wines that celebrate terroir, appellation and true varietal characteristics. The primary fruit source for this Pinot Noir is Windsor Sonoma's estate property on Westside Road in the Russian River Valley. The rolling, hillside estate vineyards, coupled with the cooling effects of marine-layer fog in the mornings and late afternoons provide an ideal growing environment for Pinot Noir. The lush dark berry flavors and bright acidity that are present during harvest, translate into a wonderfully balanced, food-friendly wine. Bright, dark cherry notes are complemented by nuances of strawberry tart, mocha and subtle winter spices. Only 1350 cases produced. Drink now through 2015.
Pacific Wine Enterprises - Woodinville, Washington
2009 Eye of the Needle Harvest White, Columbia Valley
Pacific Wine Enterprises is a small family owned winery located in Woodinville, Washington that produces limited quantities of handcrafted wines from some of Washington’s premier vineyards. Each lot and individual wine barrel is meticulously monitored from the moment the fruit is hand harvested, to the day the wine is gently bottled by hand. This artisan approach allows them to preserve the delicate balance of aromas and unique characteristics of each wine. The Harvest White is Chardonnay based (91%) with the remaining blend being comprised of 7% Pinot Gris and 2% Sauvignon Blanc. This blend made it an elegant wine with both presence and delicacy. The wine exhibits a wonderful array of fruit and floral characteristics. Melon and fresh citrus are underscored with a delicate honeysuckle perfume. The flavors are a blend of sweet grapefruit and lemon zest with a hint of honeydew. The acid lends structure to the wine and sustains the finish but is not so tart that it overpowers the fruit. Drink now through 2014. Serve chilled with Pacific Rim cuisine such as mushroom dumplings in chicken broth, herb stuffed zucchini with basmati rice, tuna with mango sauce, Alaskan butterfish marinated in Harvest White and Miso, lobster with papaya sauce, and steamed bass with caramelized onions, ginger and scallions.
