MAN Vintners - South Africa
2011 Chenin Blanc Cuvée V
MAN Vintners was started by three friends. They used their wives names for inspiration: Marie, Anette and Nicky – and a new MAN was born! MAN Vintners is a partnership between three leading South African winemakers: Charles Back of Fairview, José Conde of Stark-Condé & Tyrrel Myburgh of Joostenberg. They make bold, fruity, palate-pleasing, modern-styled wines. The design elements from the label and capsules are borrowed from traditional African motifs that appear in local fabrics, engravings, and beadwork. They are fortunate in South Africa to enjoy such a rich cultural heritage. There are thousands of African design inspirations yet untapped. MAN's Cuvée V is a limited production wine made in the famous demi-sec style of the wines from Vouvray in France. Chenin Blanc vines in the Agter-Paarl region produce concentrated, flavorful wines with wonderful balance and complexity. When making this 100% Chenin Blanc wine, MAN used only free-run juice from grapes from selected Chenin Blanc vineyards. To deliver the sweetness and texture that makes this wine so wonderful to drink, MAN stops the fermentation process when the sugar content of the wine reaches the desired level. This also ensures a lower alcohol level and a nice balance to the acidity in the wine. MAN has tried to make a new world Vouvray-style wine, with lots of new world tropical fruit, pineapple, syrupy peaches and sweet citrus flavors and aromas that are balanced with a refreshing acidity and the minerality characteristic of the Agter-Paarl region. Don’t be fooled by the sweetness, because this is a versatile wine that will go well with most fish, aromatic curry and poultry dishes. Also fabulous as an aperitif on a hot summer afternoon! Drink now through 2014.
Casa Vinicola Botter – Italy
NV Bellafina Pink Raboso Moscato Veneto IGT
Since 1928, the Botter family has been producing wines under environmentally friendly policies and with innovative production techniques and technologies. Today, the company is managed by the family’s third generation and specializes in wines of the Veneto. Bellafina is a toast to Italian lifestyle. Produced in a lightly sparkling (Frizzante) and easy drinking style, the Bellafina wines are a perfect accompaniment to any cuisine, celebration or occasion. The name “Bellafina” is a union between two lovely Italian words - “bella” meaning beautiful and “fina” referring to fine, or delicate. This blend is made from 80% Raboso and 20% Moscato. The Raboso grapes follow a traditional vinification of rosé wines with a light maceration at a temperature not exceeding 64°F. The Moscato grapes follow the traditional vinification of white wines: after soft-pressing the must is left to ferment at a temperature between 63°-64°F for 15 – 20 days in stainless steel vats. The wines are stored separately until they are blended and stored in special tanks where the wine is re-fermented (minimum 10 days), to reach the desired pressure (1.9 bar). Pale rose color, notes of red berries (strawberry and raspberry), with the characteristic and fragrant bouquet that is typical of the Moscato grape; sweet and aromatic. Excellent with cakes and pastry. Drink now through 2015.
