With a history dating back thousands of years, wine is a favorite drink for individuals around the world. Some use it culturally while others enjoy a nice glass to relax after a long day. No matter the reason, wine is a staple in modern society. However, not all wines are beloved by everyone. As any wine club member will tell you, there are dozens of wine varieties with a wide range of different colors and flavors, and not all of them are universally enjoyed.
Where to start
Developing a love for wine is not something that comes naturally to everyone. Some people cultivate it over time, breaking into the field step by step, wine by wine. These sorts of individuals learn quickly that not all wines are great for beginners. Many wines have a strong, dry flavors that can be hard to tolerate for a new wine drinker. This, however, does not mean that finding a beginner wine is impossible. There are many great wines that are enjoyable to individuals starting out on their journey into the world of wine.
While red wines can be flavorful, many new wine drinkers find them too dry or bitter. Experienced wine club members know that sweet white wines are often best for those just beginning to develop a palate. Moscato, Chardonnay and Reisling are three varieties of wine many beginners find pleasing. Rosé, or blush wines, can also be light and sweet in flavor. Although white and blush wines are more likely to be sweet, port wine can also be enjoyable for novices. Once introduced properly to wine, many develop a taste for darker, drier, earthier wines with further tasting. They are then able to enjoy some of the other wine club offerings available.
Learning the art of appreciating wine takes time, but everyone has to start somewhere. If you aren’t sure where to begin, don’t be afraid. Start with sweeter, lighter wines and work your way to the bolder, more traditional wines. Joining a wine club can be a great way to not only become acquainted with different kinds of wines but to find what flavors you like best. After all, the world of wine has something for everyone.
